Thai, Cambodian troops clash

a thai soldier was wounded in an exchange of fire between thai and cambodian soldiers on the border near prasat ta kwai temple in surin province this afternoon, reports said.
the clash took place about 2pm. the wounded had been admitted to surin hospital.
col suwit hukaew, the 2nd army spokesman, said he was checking the information.

Border clash report denied

there was no clash between thai and cambodian soldiers at the border near prasat ta kwai temple as reported, a 2nd army spokesman said on wednesday.
it was earlier reported that one thai soldier was wounded in when soldiers from the two sides exchanged shots.
col wisit chotamangsa, the 2nd army chief-of-staff, said there had not been a clash.
a thai soldier accidently fired his weapon, wounding a sergeant in the leg.
the accident occurred near hill 306, about one kilometre from the prasat ta kwai temple ruins, col wisit said.
surin governor yutthana wiriyakitti, when asked about the report, said he was still checking the information.

the army must back the democratically elected government, defence minister sukumpol suwannarat said monday.
"politics and the army must co-exist and cannot be separated into two entities," acm sukumpol said during the first national security council meeting after he was appointed as minister of defence.

Army chief welcomes unity meeting

the lunch meeting of all nine political parties to discuss national unity held by the national reconciliation committee chairman is most welcome, army chief prayuth chan-ocha said on friday.
gen prayuth said he would await the outcome of the meeting.
as a unit of the government, the army will wait for the final decisions of the political branch, he added,
“i have repeatedly said that there are three powers in the country - the administration, the legislative section and the justice system. all sides, including the armed forces, must join hands to move the country forward.
“all thai people want national reconciliation as soon as possible. we must all rapidly ensure unity to bring peace and security to the country," gen prayuth said.
