TLSC demands wage hike nationwide

the thai labour solidarity committee plans mass gatherings of workers throughout the country to pressure the government to immediately raise the daily minimum wage to 300 baht nationwide, tlsc chairman chalee loysoong said on thursday.
mr chalee said his committee disagreed with the government’s plan to increase the daily minimum wage to 300 baht on only seven provinces on april 1 this year, and then raise the daily wage to 300 baht nationwide in 2013.
the government had promised a 300 baht daily wage on jan 1, 2012, but failed to keep its word, he added.
he said prices of consumer goods have gone up due to the increase in fuel prices and the government has failed to control prices of essential products, while civil servants have been given pay increases.
the daily living cost of each worker was now at about 348 baht. if they have family, their costsof living rises to 561.79 baht per day.
therefore the government should immediately raise the daily minimum wage to 300 baht for all workers nationwide, said mr chalee.

Pakdihan new deputy spokesman

the cabinet on tuesday approved the appointment of pakdihan himathongkam, a failed bangkok mp candidate, as a deputy government spokesman, reports said.
the cabinet also agreed to move anuttama amornwiwat, deputy government spokeswoman, to the position of secretary-general to the social development and human security minister, according to the reports.

the gold traders association this morning set the buying price at 24,832.08 baht per baht-weight for gold ornaments and 25,200 baht per baht-weight for gold bar.
the selling prices were set at 25,700 baht per baht-weight for gold ornaments, and 25,300 baht per baht-weight for gold bar.
