police opened fire on tibetan protesters in china on monday, killing at least one person and injuring scores of others, a rights group and the tibetan government-in-exile said.
citing witnesses, free tibet and the government-in-exile - based in india - said the protest happened in sichuan province, adding the situation was still very tense in the area.

the opposition democrat party on tuesday petitioned the administrative court, seeking an injunction against the cabinet resolution for a two-billion-baht compensation package for voictims of the political violence between 2005 and 2010, pending an investigation.
the cabinet passed the resolution on jan 10.
sathit pitutecha, a democrat party mp for rayong, said the party had filed the petition with the administrative court because the cabinet resolution, once implemented, would be harmful because:
1. the compensation was illegal as the resolution set no criteria for the payments;
2. the resolution, once implemented, would cause division in society;
3. the resolution could cause people to lose respect for the law;
4. it could damage financial discipline; and
5. it could damage the justice process.
therefore, the democrat party asked the court to issue an injunction against the implementation of the compensation package approved by the cabinet, mr sathit said.
